I saw you're response but was unable to use the /retrieve command to receive my item. I did crete a new character and that character had a bow. As a test I created another character and that character also had a bow.

It seems the new characters have them but my original ranger does not.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Guild Wars Support. We are aware of the issue and are currently planning to introduce a new command (example: /retrieve) that will allow you to retrieve the special item at any time throughout the life of your account. This means that even if you have lost it or deleted it for any reason you will be able to type this command in and receive the special item again. We expect to have this command in the game in the next 24 hours and are really pleased to be able to bring this to you.
Also if you are having problems with some of your special items not being customized to the character they are on, this will also be fixed in the next 24 hours as well. If you have any further questions about this or any other issue you might be having please do not hesitate to ask.

I played the first night (the early bird day we got for pre-ordering) for 4 hours before I logged off. I just logged in for my second night of play and my bow isn't on my character.

I bought the pre-order kit. I have the code to type in for the pre-order item. Where on earth do I put in this key? I never partcipated in beta because I prefer not to "ruin" the gameplay experience with bugs.

Someone told me I "had" to participate in beta, but nowhere does it say that I "had" to participate in beta to redeem the pre-order item.

UPDATE- Okay, I found the place to put in the code. I put in the code and it says it is in USE??? What the frick? I just opened up the box for the first time just now.

I don't think this has been mentioned, but if you have one of the preorder items in the vault, it breaks other characters getting it. As it counts the item being attached to your new character, so it doesn't need to create one.

keep in mind, the new command is /preorder, not /retrieve. I figured this out just by geussing.... but it's also in the patch notes.

I was using the Targe in my Pre-Order account, but after some account troubles that account was deleted and I was issued a new Pre-order key, which I added to my retail account.

I don't recall doing anything special in the pre-order to see the Targe in inventory. I can't see it now, even though the new key indicates I have the Targe....(Best Buy)

Do I need to do something to get it into my inventory listing???

omg.. with all this I'm almost glad I didnt preorder

see what I get with circuit city copy when they restock (probably nothing..!)

but I'm not a fan of real dollars for virtual extras, like to earn my keep

CKaz: preorder didn't cost any more. in fact, if it weren't for preordering, I wouldn't have had the money to pay for it the day it came out(put $20 down and had to spend some of the rest of my money before release date, but I gained the money back shortly after). preodering requires a down-payment of whatever you wanna pay, but it's totalled into the total cost of the game, so you spend the same amount of money.
